On September 21st, a thousand job seekers, technology enthusiasts, and students will tour tech companies in Downtown Eugene, as part of Oregon’s largest state wide tech event. Many of the 418 tech companies in greater Eugene will open their offices to the public, show off their work, and recruit top talent to fill hundreds of job openings.

The number of tech companies participating in the Downtown Eugene Tech Tours has tripled over last year. Companies set to participate include new downtown Eugene arrivals Mozilla, XS Media, Quorum, SecureAuth, and Revolution Design Group. Favorites from last year are also returning including Lunar Logic, Pipeworks Studio, Palo Alto Software, IDX, CBT Nuggets, Cognitopia and Arcimoto.

“when the [2016] event kicked off in Kesey Square to a crowd of over 500, we all looked around and realized just how big the tech sector has grown here”

TAO Director, Matt Sayre, said that the event last year was a defining moment for the region’s tech sector, “when the event kicked off in Kesey Square to a crowd of over 500, we all looked around and realized just how big the tech sector has grown here”. Lane County’s tech sector is the fastest growing industry – projected to grow by 28% over the next ten years. This is creating nearly 2,000 job openings with current average annual wages of more than $74,000.

Arcimoto’s appearance, notably, comes on the heels of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) and in prelude to the construction of its new 30,000 square foot production facility in Eugene.

Mark Frohnmayer, President of Arcimoto, said he’s excited to participate in this year Tech Tours,“we’re just coming up for air from our IPO, that turned out almost twice as large as we had originally aimed for. Arcimoto has a lot to celebrate and so does Eugene’s tech sector.” Frohnmayer said. This past Summer, Arcimoto and other local tech companies hosted high school teachers and students for internships, as part of a Elevate Lane County, in an effort to build capacity in local high schools to help students get the skills they need to get access to careers in high-demand, high-wage positions in our community.

The Downtown Eugene Tech Tours will kick off at 5pm on Kesey Square with an address from Mayor Lucy Vinis and Jake Weatherly CEO of SheerID. From 5:30-8 pm, registered event participants will be able to tour dozens of local tech companies.
